The Dwelling Project
The design of this Dweling space fuses the techniques of Folding and Interlocking, as well as the thorough planning and experimentation of several design prototypes together, to create a surreal and unique experience for the client to dwell in. How the client is able to dwell in this space is perceived through each of his individual movements, referenced from his rituals and postures.
This particular Dwelling space is made up of three corrugated cardboard surfaces, connected together through the usage of interlocking and with several surfaces being cut out, with fold markings for transformation to take place when the client dwells in it. With the dominant feature of this space being Folding, and the subdominant feature being Interlocking, the main characteristics of this space has more folds than interlocks.
The first transformation that takes place would have to be the rituals of my client’s REST and WORK. With the door of the space being able to transformed into a study surface for my client, and as well as opening up several gaps which becomes the windows of the space, my client is able to carry out his work with ample space, comfort and privacy and as well as enjoy the view that he prefers to watch when he is in his resting mood. The second transformation is nothing complex as I have created a resting surface, as well as a playing area/ surface for him to carry out his movements of PLAY. As privacy was clearly emphasized mostly, my client is able to PLAY comfortably with the supply of sunlight and ventilation, as well as the assurance of privacy and security.
